Sri Jual Oram, Union Tribal Affairs Minister visited ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar today. The Minister reviewed the progress of fisheries development activities under taken by CIFA in tribal areas. He emphasized that tribal sub-plan activities should be planned and implemented in such a way that it results in direct benefit to tribal communities. The Minister visited the farm facilities, hatcheries and other production units. He also addressed the scientists and staff of the Institute. He was accompanied by Sri Pradeep Kumar Purohit, MLA, Padampur, Odisha.
Dr P. Jayasankar, Director, ICAR-CIFA welcomed the minister and presented a brief overview of the Institute and its activities. He underlined that the Institute lays adequate emphasis on research application and programmes like TSP, NEH, Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav being implemented in right earnest.
Dr B. C. Mohapatra, Chairman, TSP Committee appraised the minister about the activities undertaken in Odisha as well as other states for tribal welfare. He mentioned that the TSP activities are being carried out in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Gujarat, Manipur, Odisha and Kerala.
