Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare inaugurated a Kisan Goshthi at Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS) as Chief Guest here today.
In his address, he mentioned about the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana under which farmers are given insurance at an interest rate of 1.5% and 2% respectively for rabi and kharif crops so that more and more farmers can take advantage of this scheme. He urged scientists to adopt one village each thereby forming a direct interaction among the farmers increasing their income as well as farm productivity. He said 89 Central Schemes related to agriculture which were pending since years have been given approval to be worked on mission mode and with the help of NABARD, a fund of Rs 20 crores has been generated which will be beneficial to the farmers and for 23 schemes, Rs 12,517 crores have been given to complete the mission. A national level Mandi has been setup wherein farmers can sell their agricultural produce without the intervention of middlemen and e-trading platform for farmers has also been setup through which 26000 farmers did sale-purchase this year.
Agricultural Minister also inaugurated a technology exhibition organized by KVKs of the region.
Dr. Rajendra B. Lal, Vice Chancellor (SHIATS), Dr. A. K. A. Lawrence, Pro Vice-Chancellor (SHIATS) and Dr. U.S. Gautam, Director, ATARI, Kanpur welcomed the dignitaries.
The event was jointly organized by SHIATS and ATARI, Kanpur.
