Union Minister for Road, Transport, Highways and Shipping inaugurated awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojana

Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road, Transport, Highways and Shipping inaugurated Farmer Awareness Meet organized by  Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research, Nagpur on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana here today.

In his inaugural speech, he stressed the need to make smart villages on the lines of smart cities. He added that there is a budgetary provision of 9 lakh cores for crop loans. Shri Gadkari  expressed concern over low irrigation availability in Maharashtra, need for soil health analysis and building  of check dams at village level which will give quantum jump to crop productivity in the state. He advised farmers to adopt crop pattern according to the market requirement. He exhorted scientists  to take  technologies to farmers. He called for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and technology as key words for welfare of farmers.

The Minister also inaugurated an agri-exhibition on technologies and varieties developed by various agricultural institutions and ICAR-CICR, Nagpur.

Shri Krupal Balaji Tumane, Member of Parliament, Ramtek and Dr C.D.Mayee, former Chairman, Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board were the guests of honour.

Shri Tumane spoke about benefits of new crop insurance scheme. He informed that the new crop insurance scheme is Pro-farmer with one premium rate for each season for food grains, oil seeds and pulses and removes capping on premium so that farmers get maximum protection. This insurance yojana  is  a boon especially for small and marginal for farmers.

Earlier, Dr. K.R.Kranthi, Director, ICAR-CICR welcomed the dignitaries and briefed on recent achievements and activities of the institute.

Shri Ramesh Rajurkar, Branch manager, Universal Sampko General Insurance Company Ltd. Nagpur  briefed about the salient features of PMFBY.

More than 500 farmers participated in the programme.
