ICAR-NRCO, Darjeeling Campus new Laboratory-cum-administrative building was inugurated by Shri. Parshottombhai Rupala, Hon’ble Minister MoS (Agri. & FW and Panchayati Raj) Government of India on 5 March 2017. On this occasion, Shri Rupala advised the scientist to establish tissue culture laboratory facilities for large scale production of disease free healthy planting material and distribute to farmers. Dr D.R. Singh, Director, ICAR-NRCO presented the salient achievements of ICAR-NRCO, Darjeeling Campus. Dr T. Janakiram, ADG (Horticultural Science) appreciated the initiatives taken by NRCO on hydroponics, aeroponics and vertical farming for conservation and commercial production of orchids. Executive member of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, Executive Engineer, CPWD and staff of ICAR-NRCO were present on this occasion.
Shri Parshottombhai Rupala, Hon’ble Minister inaugurated the one day Workshop on “Farmers participation in orchid research development” on 6 March 2017. Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Minister advised the Scientists to work towards developing technologies which can double the income of the farmers, and appreciated the achievements and initiatives taken by institute in reaching the stakeholders. He also inaugurated the exhibition showcasing the diversity of orchids grown by the farmers of the Darjeeling region. He called upon all the stakeholders present on the occasion to work towards making Darjeeling an orchid hub. The workshop was attended by farmers, representatives from state departments, senior officials from NHB, NABARD & GTA.
