A meeting of Coordination Committee for Karnataka on doubling the farmer’s income was held at University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangaluru today.
Dr. H. Shivanna, Vice- Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangaluru and Chairman of the Committee briefed the objectives of the meeting and also elaborated the problems and priorities in the state. He hoped that the participants from all sectors including animal husbandry, fisheries, poultry, horticulture, cereal crops, medicinal plants, financial institutions etc., would give greater priority to achieve the goal. He also expressed the hope that this Committee would be able to provide an implementable strategy for doubling the farmers’ income by 2022 as desired by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
Dr. Sreenath Dixit, Convener of the meeting and Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Bengaluru made a detailed presentation about the current scenarios of Karnataka in terms of the opportunities and challenges toward achieving the goal. He urged the research institutes and Agricultural Universities to come out with a list of potential technologies that would help in doubling farmer’s income. This, he said, would be needed to prepare an action plan which can be monitored in coming days.
About 30 participants including Vice- Chancellor of Agricultural Universities, Directors of ICAR institutes, representatives from NABARD, CIMMYT, Farmers Producer Organizations and officials of line departments attended the meeting.
