Norway’s ambassador to India H. E. Nils Ragnar Kamsvag visited ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar.
Dr J K Sundaray, Director, CIFA brief about the Institute’s activities and achievements. He indicated that Indo-Norwegian collaboration in selective breeding of Rohu an Indian Major Carp has led to development of Improved Rohu Jayanti, having 17 % genetic gain per generation. Research is underway to develop genetically improved Catla and freshwater giant prawn at CIFA.
The envoy visited the Jayanti Rohu rearing unit, Murrel seed production unit and public aquarium at CIFA and other farm facilities. In his address, he stressed on transfer of technology to the clientele. He appreciated the good work being carried out at the Institute.
