The first meeting of the state coordination committee on “Doubling the Farmers’ income by 2022 in the state of Rajasthan” was organized at the Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur.
Prof U.S. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, MPUAT and Chairman of the Committee, emphasized that the doubling of income of farmers in Rajasthan is very challenging in view of adverse agro-climatic conditions prevailing in the state; and convergence of improved production technologies, diversification of agriculture and livestock; better access to market; and enabling policies is very critical in achieving this aspiring target. He underlined further that different technological interventions are needed in different regions and operational coordination among research institutes and extension functionaries of state government and KVKs needs to be strengthened in the state along with suitable marketing and policy support.
Dr. O.P. Yadav, Director, ICAR-CAZRI, Jodhpur and Convener of the Coordination Committee, made a detailed presentation on rate of growth achieved in the state in the recent past in production and productivity of various commodities including crops, horticulture and livestock and highlighted the role of improved efficiency of water, nutrients and land.
Vice-chancellors of State Agricultural and Veterinary Universities of state, directors of ICAR institutes, representatives of different departments, marketing board, state seed corporation, cooperatives, farmers and credit institutes participated in expressed their views and focused on role of integrated farming system, improved marketing options, better infrastructure, effective input delivery mechanism, and secondary agriculture in enhancing farmers’ income in a given time-frame.
