Shri Sudarshan Bhagat, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, visited Muttar, the only village in Kerala where the ICAR project ‘National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture’ (NICRA) is implemented.
While interacting with farmers on the impact of the project, Shri Bhagat briefed about the farmer friendly development programmes like PMFBY, PKSY, Soil Health Card programme, PKVY etc implemented by the Govt. of India with the objective of doubling the farmers’ income by 2022. He emphasized that this could be achieved only through the Integrated Farming System (IFS) approach where farming is integrated with dairy, fisheries, poultry, duck and other enterprises. He appreciated the efforts of ICAR-KVK-Alappuzha in successfully implementing the NICRA project and the partner farmers for their co-operation. He also released two publications prepared based on the project.
Dr. Sreenath Dixit, Director, ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Bengaluru briefed about the programmes implemented in Muttar village by ICAR-KVK, Alappuzha under NICRA project.
Shri. P.A. Thomas, Secretary, Paddy Farmers’ Group, Shri. Mathukutty Eapen, President, Muttar Grama Panchayath and Dr. P. Muralidharan, Head, ICAR-KVK, Alappuzha spoke on the occasion.
About 150 farmers were present on the occasion.
