Indian Council of Agricultural Research celebrated ‘International Yoga Day’ on 21st June 2017. ICAR Institutes across the country organized Yoga Sessions as per Common Yoga Protocol provided by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
International Yoga Day was organized at Symposium Hall, NASC, New Delhi. Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) said Yoga helps to achieve balanced and peaceful life.
Shri Chhabilendra Roul, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR) briefed about various form of Yoga and their benefits.
Dr. A.K.Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science) and Senior Officials of ICAR Headquarters attended the event.
Instructors from Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga demonstrated various Yoga asanas.

Third International Yoga Day was celebrated at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in presence of Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR); Shri Chhabilendra Roul, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR) and Dr. Jeet Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director General (Crop Science & Director, IARI).
Assistant Director Generals, Director’s and Joint Director's of ICAR institutes in Delhi; Head of the Divisions, faculty of IARI, students, administrative staff of ICAR and IARI participated in the one hour Yoga exercises organized atn the Post Graduate Ground of IARI. The yoga asanas were conducted under the supervision of trained yoga instructors, who apart from conducting the exercises also informed about the benefits of each asana. The instructors educated the participants about the importance of Yoga for stress free healthy living and healthy mind.

Yoga session was organized in the administrative block lounge due to rain outside. The programme was started with the brief address of Dr. K. K. Lal, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow.

भाकृअनुप- भारतीय गन्ना अनुसंधान संस्थान, लखनऊ के आवासीय परिसर में योग अभ्यास कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया। इस योग अभ्यास कार्यक्रम में संस्थान के वैज्ञानिको,ंकर्मचारियों तथा उनके परिवार के सदस्यों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया तथा योग प्रशिक्षक द्वारा प्रदर्शित योग के विभिन्न आसनों को सहजता से किया। संस्थान के निदेशक डॉ. अश्विनी दत्त पाठक ने योग अभ्यास कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता करते हुए सभी को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय योग दिवस की शुभकामना दिया तथा सभी प्रतिभागियों से योग को अपने दैनिक जीवन में नियमित रूप से अपनाने की सलाह दिया। इस योगाभ्यास कार्यक्रम को आयोजित करने का मुख्य उद्देश्य संस्थान परिवार के सदस्यों को योग के महत्व तथा इसके मानसिक तथा शारीरिक लाभ के बारे में जागरूक करना था। योग अभ्यास कार्यक्रम के सभी प्रतिभागियों ने नियमित रूप से योग करने तथा योग शिविर के नियमित आयोजन का संकल्प लिया।

Dr. Bijendra Singh, Director, ICAR-IIVRbriefed about the importance of daily practicing yoga.In this program, various exercises, yoga asans, pranayam, etc were demonstrated and conducted by Yoga expert Sri ChandeshDube and Girish Upadhyay. They have emphasized that the regular practice of these aasans and pranayam would be helpful in relieving of body pains and remedy for several diseases such as diabetes, heart and lung diseases.

ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute
The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute observed the International Day of Yoga with demonstration of yoga and an awareness lecture. Dr (Major) Rajesh Nambissan. He said that regular yoga practice would help human being to coordinate and concentrate the activities related to body, breath and mind. A regular yoga practitioner could achieve this level even when he is performing routine activities such as cooking, playing, bathing etc.
Prior to the speech, Shri K Vijayakumar, Sri Sri Yoga Faculty of the Art of Living Foundation demonstrated the yoga to the staff member of the ICAR-CMFRI, ICAR-CIFRI and ICAR-NBFGR. Around 250 staff members attended the programme. The activity started with body setting exercises followed by routine yoga practices and postures.
ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata
Dr. S.S. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata addressed the participants about the importance, expediency and advantage of practicing Yoga regularly.
Shri Kishnanlal Bajaj, a Yoga Expert, demonstrated different Yogasanas and Prayanams, and briefed the positive effects and benefits on health.
All the staff took active participation in performing the various Asanas. One bulletin on Art of Healthy Living was distributed among the participants. The session was continued for two and half hours.
ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research & Management, Hyderabad
Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM, urged the children and students, in particular, to adopt the basic tenets of yoga and wellbeing in their life.
Dr. A. Debnath, Chief Medical Officer and Yoga Instructor of the Academy administered the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). He highlighted the features as well as importance of Yoga in everybody’s daily life.
About 300 members consisting of faculty, students, trainees and staff members of the Academy participated as well as from other institutes have participated in the yoga from 6.00 to 8.00 am.
Students from Bhartiya Vidhya Bhavan, NIRD also participated in the session.
ICAR- Indian Institute of Pulses Research Kanpur
Dr. N.P. Singh, Director, ICAR-IIPR in his opening remarks emphasized the yoga for maintaining healthy life. In the present polluted environmental conditions, doing yoga becomes more inevitable to maintain the body immune system.
The yogasanas were performed as per the protocol of the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India in the supervision of Dr. Bansa Singh, Principal Scientist, IIPR, Kanpur.
Yogacharya Shri Ram Sijor, President of Patanjali Yog Smiti, West Kanpur. delivered a talk on ‘Importance of Yoga in Our Life’. He emphasized to do the yoga to save our body from stresses and diseases. He briefed about various asanas helpful in curing the chronic diseases like BP and diabetes.
The function ended with the pledge to do yoga regularly to live healthy life and contribute more in the progress of the nation.
All the staff members of the Institute participated the event.
ICAR-Central Institute Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai
Dr. K.K. Vijayan, Director, ICAR-CIBA highlighted the significance of yoga and emphasized its relevance in today’s lifestyle, stressing the need of healthy body for a healthy mind. He further stressed that the theme of international day of yoga is to be remembered not just as celebration only, but on everyday basis and the staffs should make it as a habit to the fitness which in turn would pave way for increased work efficiency in their career. Two guest speakers of eminence were invited for the program at the institute.
Dr. Raji Velmurugan, Lifestyle expert from MIOT Hospital, Chennai delivered a lecture on “Lifestyle modifications for lifelong good health”. She highlighted the necessity of better dietary habits and physical exercise.
Yoga Guru Mr. K. Nanjapathi detailed about the beneficial effects of yoga and demonstrated the various yogasanas and trained the participants with the important steps in yoga.
More than 100 participants from the institute participated in the program.
A week long training program was also organized from 15th to 21st June 2017, under the guidance of the Yoga Guru, Mr. K. Nanjapathi to commemorate the celebration of the third international yoga day.
ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore
Yoga Session was conducted under the guidance of eminent Yoga experts, Mr. Sujit Ghorui and his group of Yoga Kendra, Barrackpore based on the Common Yoga Protocol provided by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Around 150 members (Staff members of ICAR-CIFRI and their family members) attended the program in the morning.
