Skill Development Programme of tribal farmers under TSP at ICAR-CRIDA

ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture conducted five days skill development  programme for farmers from Adilabad District under Tribal Subplan (TSP) on “Soil and Water Management in Agriculture” from June 5-9, 2023 at ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad

The skill development programme was inaugurated on 5th June by Dr. Santanu K Bal, Director (I/C) ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad. Dr. Bal in his address emphasised on the importance of water management in dryland areas and also encouraged the farmers to adopt the new agricultural technologies in soil and water management practices.

The programme includes lectures, hands on experience and also exposure visits. Various topics like Irrigation management in major rainfed crops, improving water use efficiency through soil health management, Social engineering in participatory water management, Climate resilient Agriculture in Adilabad District etc were covered during the training programme.

As a part of skill development  programme various exposure visits were conducted for the farmers including Water technology centre, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU),  Water and Land Management Training and Research Institute (WALMTRI), Rajendranagar and ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad.

 Dr. Md Lateef Pasha, Senior Scientist at Water technology centre explained about various water conservation and irrigation practices to farmers. Photovoltaic system of microi-rrigation was also demonstrated to the trainees.

At WALMTRI, Dr B.K Rao Director (Agriculture and Research) explained farmers of different water conservation structures and also various techniques to reduce soil loss.

The valedictory session of this skill development programme was held on June 9, 2023 where in Director in charge Dr. Santanu Kumar Bal addressed the trainees and received feedback from them. Trainees were given certificates of participation during the session.
