A State Level Virtual Interface Meeting on “Enhancing the Preparedness for Agriculture Contingencies during Kharif - 2022 for Rajasthan” was jointly organized by the ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad and the Department of Agriculture, Government of Rajasthan here today.

Shri Dinesh Kumar, Principal Secretary (Agriculture & Horticulture), Government of Rajasthan along with Shri Kana Ram, Commissioner, Department of Agriculture, Government of Rajasthan; Dr. M. Osman, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad; Dr. S.K. Sharma, Director (Research), Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur, Rajasthan; Dr. P. Shekhawat, Director (Research), Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, Rajasthan; Dr. T. Satyavathi, Project Coordinator, AICRP on Pearl Millet, Jodhpur, Rajasthan; Representatives from ICAR Institutes and District & Divisional Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Rajasthan were present during the occasion.
The efforts made by the ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad along with the State Agricultural Universities in the development and updation of District Agriculture Contingency Plans and the need for sensitization of the Department Officials on the implementation of Contingency Plans in case of weather aberrations were discussed during the Meeting.
As compared to the Year - 2021-22, the State witnessed normal to excess rainfall and in all the Districts leading to good progress in sowing of many crops. The Divisions / Districts which were having less amount of sowing by 15th July had also enhanced in the crop sown area. It is hoped that the State may have good crop productivity and enhanced production during this season.
The following major recommendations made during the Meeting:
- Since the State is expected to have above normal rainfall during the season and also in the different Months, suggested to monitor Block Level Rainfall Events which can cause temporary waterlogging of the fields.
- Based on soil information, the areas prone for temporary waterlogging are to be marked in each District for monitoring of the crop growth due to high rainfall events.
- The Crops which are sensitive to temporary waterlogging in each District are to be identified for the monitoring purposes.
- The dry spells info is to be shared by the ICAR-CRIDA on weekly basis to the State Government for the initiation of action, if any.
- The pest and disease problems in the different crops to be monitored as above the normal rainfall is expected.
