Kailash Chowdhary is a progressive farmer from Kiratpura village, Rajasthan. Despite his education only upto 10th standard, he applied marketing mantras for getting substantial price for his farming products. His concept of value addition through processing changed his life forever. Now, with the help of the Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, Kailash is not only earning more, he is giving almost 70 people direct and indirect employment.

Good news for mango exporters

Mango, the king of fruits, has a great export potential due to exquisite taste and flavor. Our country ranks first in area and production of Mango with 2.31 million ha and 12.75 MT, respectively. But infestation with oriental Fruit Fly (Bactocera dorsalis) has been a major impediment to mango export. It accounts for about 27 percent of the harvesting loss.

Shri Ramesh Verma, a farmer at Kasimpur Biruha, Lucknow is a very innovative and enthusiastic farmer having marginal land holding (0.506 ha). He has successfully introduced the cultivation of exotic vegetables in Lucknow district. Earlier, he was farming with his father and cultivated only rice and wheat with some vegetables like, cabbage, cauliflower, tomato, potato and banana. This farming practice provided good returns only to meet out the family expenses. Shri Verma a keen observer and innovative by nature, tried to grow new crops. He visited KVK, ICAR-IISR, Lucknow.
