The a-IDEA, Technology Business Incubator (TBI) of ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad organized a sensitization programme on “Entrepreneurship Development and Start-Up Ecosystem” in Agriculture and Allied sectors for the students of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in collaboration with ICAR- Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Port Blair. The programme has also invited participants across multidisciplinary institutions namely Andaman College (ANCOL), Portblair, Andaman Law College, Portblair, Tagore Government College of Education, Portblair, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Portblair, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Portblair and Pondicherry University, Regional Campus, Portblair to encourage and motivate the students to take up entrepreneurship as a profession.
The awareness training organized as a part to celebrate the “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” in commemoration of 75 years of India’s Independence with a participation of about 200 students and faculty members of ICAR-NAARM & ICAR-CIARI, Portblair.
Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM & President, a-IDEA, in his presidential address highlighted the significance of Island ecosystem in general and Andaman & Nicobar in particular. He stressed the participants to explore the various options namely agro-eco tourism, fisheries, large-scale plantation & poultry and meat industry for agri-preneurship. He insisted the younger generation to come up with mind-provoking thoughts to start companies or startups focussing on real-time weather advisories and hybrid solar energy models.
Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, who was the chief guest of the programme addressed the gathering to make utilize fully the opportunity provided by a-IDEA, ICAR-NAARM in entrepreneurship. He also emphasized that the students that they should start coming up with their own ideas and become good self-sustaining entrepreneurs to help build the nation.
Dr. G. Venkateshwaralu, Joint Director, ICAR-NAARM & Vice President, a-IDEA expressed his views on the proactive steps taken by the Government in supporting the startup India Programme. He discussed about the various schemes of Government in focussing on innovation and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Jaisunder, Incharge, PME, ICAR-CIARI welcomed the participants and mentioned that the Island region provides ample scope for entrepreneurship due to its rich diversity.
Dr. N.A. Vijay Avinashilingam, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NAARM & Additional CEO, a-IDEA highlighted the need for the development of entrepreneurship and start-up ecosystem in our country. He also explained the process of incubation and the role of a-IDEA in incubating the start-ups in the agri-ecosystem.
Dr. Ranjit Kumar, Head Agribusiness Management, ICAR-NAARM emphasized on the skillsets for entrepreneurship. He focussed on the mindset of entrepreneurs and qualities required for establishing a successful enterprise.
Mr. Nitish Gaurav, Founder & CEO of Genflow AI shared the challenges he faced and his experiences in turning his idea into a successful start-up.
