Golden Jubilee International conference organized at ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur

To mark the Golden Jubilee Year of foundation of Indian Society of Weed Science at ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, four day-long International Conference on “Weed and Society: Challenges and Opportunities” was organized at Jabalpur from 21st to 24th November - 2018.

Dr. Jonathan Gressel, world renowned Emeritus weed Scientist from Israel inaugurated the conference in the presence of the special guests, Dr. P.D. Juyal, Vice-chancellor, Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University and Dr. G.R. Rao, Director, TFRI (Indian Council for Forestry Research and Education), Jabalpur.

Dr. V.P. Singh, President, ISWS, highlighted the problem of weeds in different crops and cropping system including non-cropped situations and also raised the issues of herbicide resistance in different weeds.

Dr. P.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur and Smt. Dr. Mildred Xess, General Manager, NABARD were also present during the occasion.

Dr. Valraj Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Agriculture University, Jodhpur was the Chief Guest of valedictory function. Dr. Singh mentioned that the conferences remains worthy for the scientists, researchers, students working on different aspects and such conferences are the real platforms for helping scientists, researchers and students in presenting their research works and also seeking expert advices from people working in different levels.

Dr. V.P. Singh, President, ISWS apprised about the special facilities being provided for the students by the society.

Dr. P.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-DWR, graced the occasion as special guest.

The valedictory function was followed by the awards distribution to the best posters under different themes along with declaration of travel grant certificates to the winners.

The conference registered a total participation of more than 400 scientists and researchers from different parts of the country and overseas.
