The ICAR-Research Complex for North-Eastern Hills Region, Umiam, Meghalaya celebrated its 48th Foundation Day today.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) inaugurated the Poultry Seed Grower-cum-Layer House and a Pig Shed under the ICAR Poultry Seed Project. In his inaugural address, the Director General urged the scientific community for further developing the agriculture in the North-Eastern Region and addressing the rural poverty.

In his address, Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR appreciated the Institute’s efforts in leading the agricultural research in the North-East Region. The need for modern scientific interventions and involvement of the youths for the overall agricultural development of the farming community of the North-East Hill Region was also stressed by the DDG.

Dr. K.M. Bujarbaruah, Former Vice-Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam & Former Deputy Director General (Animal Science), ICAR and Former Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam delivered the 48th Foundation Day Lecture. In his Lecture, he quoted Pandit Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru’s saying - “Everything else can wait, but not Agriculture”. He also urged the Institute to focus on the sustainable development goals and aim for a hunger free world.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. V.K Mishra, Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam outlined the immense scope of improvisation in the agricultural sector in the coming Years with the implementation of modern technologies.
