The ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad in association with the Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat, Imphal organized a one-day Training Programme on “Popularization and Health Benefits of Small Millets” under North-Eastern Hill (NEH) Component of the ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad today.
In his address, Prof. B.N. Hazarika, Dean, College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat, Imphal stressed on Small Millets’ health benefits and importance of millets cultivation for higher income generation. He also urged the farmers for active involvement in Millets Project being implemented in the East Siang District in association with the ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad.
During the programme, the farmers were trained on millets production practices, its processing and also value-addition for marketing. The farmers were also distributed the seeds of Improved millet cultivars for beginning the cultivation in the region.
The programme was aimed at strengthening the tribal farmers’ knowledge regarding the millets production and utilization.
A total of 35 farmers including 22 women members from the Bodak Village of East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh participated in the programme.
