Training Programme on Integrated Nutrient Management and Nutrient Budgeting through Advanced Models to Increase Crop Productivity sponsored by Department of Science and Technology (DST) was inaugurated on 22nd October 2018 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Udhagamandalam.
Dr. M. Velayutham, Former Director, National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, in his inaugural address, emphasised the need for conserving soil as the tops soil is very important for sustaining crop productivity and its erosion leads to nutrient loss also. He stressed the need for integrated nutrient management to sustain the soil health to transfer this knowledge to the farmers, various training of this kind can be organised and also demonstrations needs to be carried out. He also said fertility management is a knowledge intensive subject and to monitor by selecting some representative sites for their impact. He also told that this type of training is essential for the fragile ecosystems.
About 25 senior level Scientists and professors from various states are participating in this programme.
This programme aims to impart training on various aspects viz., integrated nutrient management, nutrient budgeting, organic farming and advanced tools and models which enhance the fertilizer use efficiency.
