Virtual Annual Zonal Workshop of KVKs of Bihar and Jharkhand organized

The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Patna, Bihar organized the “Virtual 4th Annual Zonal Workshop of KVKs of Zone - IV” from 14th to 15th July, 2021.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR urged the KVKs for identifying 3 to 4 commodities of their Districts and focus more on production of pulse and oilseed in Bihar. He stressed on forming the Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations and marketing channel on a cluster basis involving more than 3 to 4 commodities. The achievements of CSISA in which the advancement of sowing date of early and mid-season varieties of Rice resulted in increased production and income of farmers by 30% to 40% was also highlighted in the DDG’s address. Dr. Singh encouraged the KVKs for identifying and bringing the success stories of 110 farmers who doubled their income during the last 5 years. The stories will be released on 15th August, 2022 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

Dr. R.C. Shrivastava, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar accentuated on the waste management at the village level for providing employment and income.

Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna highlighted the role of KVKs in bridging the gap between farmers and scientists.

Dr. O.N. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Jharkhand urged for bringing the technologies on cultivation of the organic vegetable which are high in demand in the markets of Odisha and West Bengal.

Dr. A.K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Patna, Bihar stressed that the KVKs’ work should be based on geographical area.

Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, Director, ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, Bihar emphasized on the need for development of market linkages.

Dr. D. Maiti, Director, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Odisha stressed on “One District One Commodity” Concept.

Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins & Gums, Ranchi, Jharkhand suggested starting a programme of tree plantation, especially Ber and Palas for Lac Cultivation on bund of rice field which may increase income by 25%.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Anjani Kumar, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Patna outlined the achievements of the ongoing activities of Zone - IV.

The Directors of Extension Education & Associate Directors (Extension) of State Agricultural Universities along with the Senior Scientists and Heads of 68 KVKs participated in the Webshop.
