The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, All India Coordinated Research Project on Women Centre, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam organized the National Webinar Series on “Immuno-nutrition, Wellness management and Livelihood change” from 3rd to 5th July, 2020.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) emphasized on the importance of practicing rich Indian culture and tradition including yoga and meditation for health management. Dr. Mohapatra stressed on applying the science-based methodologies for keeping the individuals fit and healthy. The Director General accentuated that the food influences the gene expression, genetic alterations and improper foods can lead to devastating changes causing diseases. He also stressed that food education should be the core of all education today.
In his welcome address, Dr. Ashok Bhattacharyya, Vice-Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University accentuated the need for physical well being by maintaining a proper diet to support the immune system and wellness management during the prevalence of COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Eminent Pharmacologist and Scientist, Dr. B. Dinesh Kumar, Head of the Department, Drug Toxicology Division, Indian Council of Medical Research, NIN, Hyderabad delivered a speech on “Pharmacological and Non-Pharmacological intervention to combat Pandemic COVID-19”.
Dr. K.M. Bujarbaruah, Former Vice-Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University, Assam stressed on an urgent need for innovative approaches in creating livelihoods during and after COVID-19 Pandemic for the youths in different areas. He also highlighted the importance of generating employment opportunities in different sectors by collectively identifying the areas and plan accordingly to materialize the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA delivered a talk on “Wellness management for boosting immunity during COVID-19 giving more importance on naturopathy and yogic methods for positive physical and mental health”.
Delivering the talk on “Youth lead Agriculture: Key to modernization in Agriculture and National Food Security”, Dr. Lipi Das, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Extension) & Nodal Officer, ICAR-AICRP-WIA, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar emphasized on the importance of converting farmers to agri-preneurs for attracting the youths towards the agriculture sector.
The main objective of the Webinar was to generate awareness on positive management of physical, mental, emotional and social well being during the unprecedented Pandemic situation of COVID-19.
Around 3,000 participants from across the country and UK, Germany, Zambia, Sudan, Tanzania, Phillipines, Jeddah and Dubai participated in the Webinar.
