Agricultural Education Division ICAR

The Agricultural Education Division, ICAR is involved in strengthening and streamlining of higher agricultural education system to develop human resources in agri-food system and to meet future challenges in agriculture sector in the country. This calls for regular planning, development, coordination and quality assurance in higher agricultural education in India.

The Division strives for maintaining and upgrading quality and relevance of higher agricultural education through partnership and efforts of the ICAR-Agricultural Universities (AUs) system comprising of State Agricultural Universities (62), Deemed to be Universities (5), Central Agricultural Universities (2) and Central Universities (4) with Agriculture Faculty.

The division is headed by the Deputy Director General and four sections under the Division, viz. Education Planning & Home Science (EP&HS), Human Resources Development (HRD), Education Quality Assurance & Reforms (EQA&R), and HRM, each headed by an Assistant Director General (ADG).

Two ICAR institutes viz, National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad and National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (NIAP), New Delhi are also under this division.

Agricultural Education Division through its four sections carries out a number of components under its central sector scheme to support and strengthen the Higher Agricultural Education in the country.

Objectives

  • To provide quality assurance in higher agricultural education in the country through policy support, accreditation, academic regulations, curriculum review, infrastructure development, faculty improvement, and student admissions through national-level competitions.
  • To enhance the efficiency and scope of agricultural universities by promoting policy support, facilitating experiential learning, and building demand-driven partnerships.
  • To promote excellence in education and research through national-level positions such as National Professor, National Fellow, Emeritus Scientist, and awards like scholarships, fellowships, and Outstanding Teacher Awards.
  • Capacity building of National Agricultural Research System (NARS) through national and international collaborations and linkages.
