ICAR-ATARI, Pune Celebrates Kisan Samman Diwas

ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute celebrated Kisan Samman Diwas today, commemorating the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, India’s 5th Prime Minister. The event was organised to recognize the invaluable contributions of the country’s farmers and their crucial role in driving India’s agricultural development.

Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, emphasized the government's commitment to increasing farmers' incomes. He commended ICAR-KVKs for their efforts in disseminating technologies, particularly in grapes, pomegranates, and other crop varieties. Shri Chouhan highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent launch of 109 climate-resilient and biofortified crop varieties developed by ICAR. He also urged the farmers to adopt natural farming, recommending that each farmer dedicate at least half to one acre to it, and called for the scientific management of chemical fertilizer use in agriculture.

Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, Maharashtra, emphasized the importance of celebrating Kisan Samman Diwas and commended the KVKs for their role in connecting agricultural science with farmers. He highlighted the global shift towards natural farming and reaffirmed the government's dedication to promoting it in India. Shri Fadnavis urged farmers to embrace technological innovations, such as farm mechanization, through government schemes and provided an overview of the Nanaji Deshmukh Krushi Sanjiwani Yojna, which is benefiting farmers in Maharashtra.

Shri Chandrakant Patil, State Cabinet Minister for Higher Education & Technology, Government of Maharashtra; Dr R. K. Singh, Assistant Director General (Commercial Crops), ICAR; and Dr S. K. Roy, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Pune, also graced the occasion.

Scientists from ICAR-ATARI, Directors of various ICAR institutions from Maharashtra, Heads and Scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and over 2312 farmers from across the state participated in the programme.
