ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research organised training programme on rainbow trout farming for extension officials and fish farmers in Sikkim. Four batches from the Soreng and Pakyong districts have completed the training at the ICAR-DCFR Field Centre in Champawat and Bhimtal. The five-day programme covers large-scale trout breeding, hatchery management, feeding methods, health management, marketing strategies, and climate-resilient techniques like Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS). The course includes 10 theoretical sessions and 15 practical modules, aiming to meet the growing demand for skilled personnel in sustainable trout farming in collaboration with the Sikkim Department of Fisheries.
Dr Pramod Kumar Pandey, Director, ICAR-DCFR, appealed to trainees to utilize this opportunity to improve their skills and expertise and informed that the Government of India and ICAR are promoting fish farming in the northeast through several schemes and incentives.
Dr Suresh Chandra, Dr S.K. Mallik, Dr Kishore Kunal, and Dr Garima from the Directorate coordinated the programme.
A total of 120 nominated participants, representing all six districts of Sikkim, will be attending the programme.
