Mango Field Day Organized at ICAR-IARI

ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute organized the Pusa Mango Field Day today at the MB7 Field of the Division of Fruits and Horticultural Technology. The event brought together farmers, faculty members, students, and other key stakeholders from the mango industry to showcase and promote advanced mango hybrids developed by ICAR-IARI.

Organized under the Outreach Programme, the event aimed to accelerate the adoption of improved mango varieties through knowledge exchange and field-level demonstrations. Participants from five states including West Bengal, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh attended the programme, underscoring the widespread interest in innovative and high-performing mango cultivars.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-IARI, led the day’s proceedings with a detailed address on the latest advancements in mango cultivation. He emphasized the importance of integrating the institute’s new mango hybrids into both domestic and global markets to boost their commercial appeal. During interactions with farmers and licensees, Dr. Rao focused on actionable strategies for upscaling plant multiplication, improving supply chains, and increasing consumer-level visibility of these improved varieties key factors in ensuring higher returns for mango growers.

He also urged the documentation of farmer success stories involving ICAR-IARI’s mango hybrids, recommending the use of digital platforms to amplify these narratives and inspire wider adoption.

Dr. Viswanathan Chinnusamy, Joint Director (Research), provided a broader perspective on the objectives of the Outreach Programme. He highlighted the initiative's goal to enhance the availability of high-quality mango planting materials through strengthened collaboration between public institutions and private enterprises.

The initiative seeks to create a more competitive and sustainable mango production ecosystem in India.
