As a part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids, Sikkim and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Kolkata, a team of scientists (Dr. Dipankar Saha and Dr. Siddhartha Sankar Biswas) from ICAR-NRCO visited districts of Murshidabad [Dhaanyaganga Krishi Vigyan Kendra (DGKVK), Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sargachi, Murshidabad, under the aegis of RKMVERI, Belurmath, Howrah]; Hooghly [Hooghly Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Mohanpur, W.B.]; and South 24 Parganas (Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonarpur, under the aegis of RKMVERI, Belurmath, Howrah) of West Bengal.
At all these KVKs interactive sessions-cum-basic training about the potential of orchid farming were organized with all possible stakeholders.
Near about 100 participants attended these events.
During these interactions meets, Swami Vishwamayananda, Chairperson of DGKVK, Murshidabad; Dr. P. Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata; Dr. Samsul Haque Ansary, Senior Scientist & Head, Hooghly KVK, BCKV; Dr. N. C. Sahu, Senior Scientist & Head, SSKVK expressed their views at their respective events of KVKs.
Dr. S. P. Das, Director, ICAR-NRCO, Pakyong, Sikkim in his message highlighted the future road map of implementation through KVKs
All the participants and stakeholders expressed their opinions, understanding, dilemma in taking up this practically established lucrative venture during these three KVK based interactive discussions cum training on the potentials of orchid cultivation and its promotion cum intensification in their respective districts of West Bengal.
