Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) inaugurated the Farmers’ Meet on ‘Encouraging Innovation to Adopt Climate Resilient Agriculture’ organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalyan, Purulia, West Bengal, in collaboration with ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru and ICAR- Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi, in the presence of revered Swami Shivapradananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Purulia and Swami Vashkarananda, Secretary, Kalyan, Purulia, today.

Dr. Pathak emphasised the importance of diversification in Agriculture and the potential of Horticulture, Fisheries, and Animal Husbandry in enhancing farmers' income. He emphasised the need for adopting modern technologies to combat climate change and improve productivity and sustainability. Dr. Pathak stressed upon the need of training of the SMSs in advanced and/ or modern agricultural technologies for further capacity development of the farmers for economic development of the rural areas in the country.

Dr. S.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, said about the latest developments and best practices in horticulture. He emphasised on the immense prospect in the field of horticulture in the district through promotion of sub-tropical fruits and vegetable cultivation and the importance of market linkages and post-harvest management in ensuring the success of horticultural ventures.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, emphasised the importance of working KVKs and district Officials hand in hand to ensure the development of farming factions and enabling them to enhance their income from agriculture and allied sectors. He also dealt with the 'One Health' concept and its linkage with soil and ecosystem health as well as continuum of plant-animal-fish-human-atmosphere in the backdrop of climate change.

Shri. Swapan Kumar Bandyopadhyay, President, Kalyan; Dr. Srnibas Mishra, Vice-President, Kalyan; Shri. Manik Deoghoria, Assistant Secretary, Kalyan, Purulia; M.K. Bhattacharjya, Head, KVK; District Officials, Govt. of West Bengal were also present during the programme.

A session was organised allowing farmers to seek clarifications of their queries by the experts. A field visit was also organised where farmers gained knowledge about new technologies from demonstration sites of KVK.

The programme witnessed a participation of 234 farmers and Officials and KVK Staffs.
