ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anushandhan Sansthan, Almora, organised a 12-day skill development training for artisans under the SCSP programme from 6th to 17th January 2025. Six local artisans from four villages in Thailisen received practical training on tool fabrication.
The programme covered welding machine operation, handling of cutting and grinding tools, safety protocols, and the use of manually operated bending and rolling machines. Artisans also learned about various agricultural tools and implements for land preparation, sowing, intercultural operations, and maintenance of spraying machines. The afternoon sessions focused on the hands-on fabrication of improved agricultural tools.
Dr Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS, emphasized the importance of collaborative group work and urged the artisans to obtain licenses for the institute's technologies to boost their income.
Along with the training certificate, onion seedlings were distributed to the participants under SCSP.
Dr Manoj Kumar, Sr Scientist, and Dr Shyam Nath, Scientist, PI-AICRP on PHET and SERB, coordinated the programme.
