10-Day Vocational Training on Scientific Aquaculture for Rural Youth concludes

22nd – 31st January 2025, Hailakandi

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hailakandi, in collaboration with Moinul Hoque Choudhury Memorial Science College, Algapur, organised a 10-day vocational training programme titled ‘Promoting Entrepreneurship Development through Scientific Aquaculture Practices for Rural Youth’ from 22nd to 31st January 2025. The training programme was supported by ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, aimed at equipping rural youth with scientific knowledge and practical skills in fisheries and aquaculture to foster entrepreneurship.

Dr Yagneshwar Deb from S.S. College, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest whereas Shri Abdus Salam, District Fisheries Development Officer (DFDO), Hailakandi graced as the Guest of Honour.

Throughout the training, participants gained hands-on experience and insights into key areas such as: scientific aquaculture practices, pre and post stocking management of carp, water quality management in aquaculture, carp hatchery management, entrepreneurial opportunities in aquaculture, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and its benefits.

Expert lectures were delivered providing valuable technical knowledge and industry perspectives to the participants.

During the valedictory session, certificates were distributed to all participants, along with ICAR-CIFE Water Testing Kits and CIFAX, to encourage practical application of their learning. 

The programme marked a significant step in fostering rural youth entrepreneurship in aquaculture, contributing to the scientific and economic development of the fisheries sector in Hailakandi.

Dr Abul Fazal Mazumder and Shri Angom Baleshwor Singh coordinated the session.

A total of 31 degree-level students from MHCM Science College actively participated in the training.
