The ICAR-Central Institute for Arid Horticulture, Bikaner, Rajasthan virtually organized the 25th Annual Research Workers’ Group Meeting of ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Arid Zone Fruits from 26th to 28th February, 2021.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR stated that looking towards the emerging need of growing population, the scientists should work with some definite goals in a team manner. He stressed on filtering the mission and ideas to develop science-led technologic innovations to address the needs of the society. Dr. Singh highlighted the potential of diverse germplasm resources of arid fruit crops available in the country in increasing productivity, improving quality and imparting tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. He also emphasized on encouraging the use of electronic databases, artificial intelligence, drone application and other modern tools and technologies.
Prof. (Dr.) P.L. Saroj, Director, ICAR-CIAH, Bikaner, Rajasthan & Project Coordinator, AICRP on Arid Zone Fruits highlighted the varieties and technologies identified and recommended through the AICRP on Arid Zone Fruits in the country. He also underlined the role of AICRP in solving the region-specific problems, germplasm utilization and exchange through AICRP on Arid Zone Fruits for multi-location testing.
The research workers from all the 18 Centres, invited guests and distinguished dignitaries attended the meeting.
