ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi took the initiative last year to observe National Lac-insect Day (N-LiD) on May 16 every year.
Consequently, N-LiD was celebrated across the country by organizing awareness campaigns, expert lectures, and field days for farmers, Students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
Network Cooperating Centers of Network Project on Conservation of Lac Insect Genetic Resources (NPCLIGR) actively participated in the event.
Dr. KK Sharma, Project Coordinator, NPCLIGR briefed about the importance of the lac insect, in the ecosystem services and livelihood security of the dependent human population. He also highlighted the need for conservation efforts to protect the lac insect biodiversity available in the country.
