“56th Annual Group Meeting on Pearl Millet” organized

The ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Pearl Millet, Jodhpur, Rajasthan virtually organized the “56thAnnual Group Meeting on Pearl Millet” from 22nd to 23rd March, 2021.

In his address, Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR stressed on preparing the product profiles for the different agro-ecologies. Heemphasized that the Pearl Millet Breeding Programmes should work as per the product profiles and plan their crossing programmes with the clear objectives.

Dr. C. Tara Satyavathi, Project Coordinator ICAR-AICRP on Pearl Millet, Jodhpur extended a very warm welcome to the Chairman, all dignitaries, invitees and participants of the annual group meet.

Dr. Y.P. Singh, ADG (FFC), ICAR accentuated on following the SOP for plant protection experiments.

Dr. Vilas A. Tonapi, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad emphasized on sharing the parental lines and improvement in the programme for developing better hybrids.

The latest advances in research related to Pearl Millet rancidity, genetic gains, material and technology development for arid regions and digitalization / database development in Pearl Millet were discussed during the Special Technical Session on “New initiatives in Pearl Millet Research” organized on the occasion.

Around 170 participants from the various parts of the country representing both public and private sectors involved in Pearl Millet R&D virtually participated in the meeting.
