5th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting Organised

The 5th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting of the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Longding, Kanubari, was organised today with Shri Gabriel D. Wangsu, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, Consumer Affairs, Civil Supplies and Legal Metrology, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh as the Chief Guest, Shri Kunal Yadav (IAS), ADC Kanubari as the Guest of Honour and Prof. Lobsang Wangchu, Head, Regional Centre, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, A. P. Centre, Basar as the Chairman of the meeting.
Shri Wangsu discussed the state's New Agriculture Policy, which focuses on enhancing agricultural production and productivity through various activities. He emphasized prioritizing capacity building for farmers to develop their skills across different areas. In addition to agriculture, he highlighted the importance of improving production and productivity in horticulture, fisheries, and animal husbandry with support from ICAR-KVK Longding. Shri Wangsu also advocated for cultivating short-duration paddy varieties to accommodate a second crop of oilseeds and maize, boosting cropping intensity and farmers' livelihoods. He further urged promoting location-specific breeds of pigs, cattle, and goats suited to the local environment. Finally, he called for coordination with relevant departments to develop the district with dedication and sincerity.
Shri Kunal Yadav, IAS, ADC Kanubari also highlighted the importance of the KVK for the enhancement of the production and productivity of crops through which the improved technologies suited to the local situation will be showcased to the farmers.
Dr V. K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-Research Complex-NEH Region, Umroi Road, Umiam briefed the gathering with his valuable suggestions and views to work for the welfare of the farmers of Longding district.
Prof. Lobsang Wangchu, Head, Regional Centre, ICAR, A. P. Centre, Basar being the Chairman of the technical session highlighted the objectives of organizing the Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting through which the action plan for the ensuing year is discussed thoroughly and finally approved seeing the local situation and problems of the farmers in the production system in different aspects.
