Annual Conference of ICAR Directors, Vice Chancellors and Industries organized

“The Food production has become now more resilient and modern agricultural practices has increased the productivity and reduced the emission of greenhouse gases”, said Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR). Dr. Pathak was addressing the “Annual Conference of ICAR Directors, Vice Chancellors and Industries - 2023” organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi here at National Agricultural Science Complex Centre, New Delhi from 4th to 6th April, 2023.

    

The Director General emphasized that todays’ science is tomorrow’s technology, and touched upon national priorities, international commitments & thrust areas along with action required to achieve aspiration of NARES. He also stressed on reorientation of NARES.

Shri. Jatindra Nath Swain, Secretary (Fisheries), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying outlined the expectations of Department of Fisheries from ICAR. Besides, increasing the per capita availability of fish from 6kg/capita/year to 24 kg/capita/year, research on fishing technologies should be taken on priority.

Shri. Manoj Ahuja, Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare exhorted about research prioritization and networking of Institutes working on same problem. The role of students during RAWE period should be used for generating feedback from farmer to the Government, he stated. Shri Ahuja said there is strong need to reduce the time between new research/technology developed and its adoption in the field. 

Shri Sanjay Garg, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR) highlighted the importance of vibrant and dynamic organization. He opined that to increase the administrative efficiency, the organization has to be lean & thin for enhanced flexibility and be always ready for change.

  

Ms. Alka Nangia Arora, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Financial Advisor (ICAR) cautioned about the financial mismanagement. She advocated that financial management is one of the crucial parameter for better and judicious utilization of the resources.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. R.C. Agrawal, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), appreciated the efforts of the DG, ICAR for organizing the meet of VC, Director & Industry on a single platform in Amrit Kal. In his address, he stressed on the importance of millets.

  

Dr Tej Partap, Chairman of the 6th Dean's Committee and Former Vice-chancellor, GBPUAT handed over the draft report to Dr. Pathak. The report is for revised course curriculum for UG in Agriculture as per NEP-2020

 

The Dignitaries also released the various ICAR Publications on the occasion.

The Vice Chancellors of State Agricultural Universities; Deputy Director Generals of ICAR, Directors of the ICAR Institutes, Senior officials of ICAR, participated in the Conference.
