Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science) ICAR, emphasised including the product profile of the Soybean varieties with different specific traits including high yield, early maturity, insect-pest and disease resistance, abiotic stress tolerance, nutrient use efficiency, ideotype breeding, high oil content, high oleic acid content, KTI and LOX content, pod shattering, varieties suitable for intercropping, pre-breeding and speed breeding and GWAS and haplotype breeding.

Dr. K.H. Singh, Director, ICAR-IISR, highlighted the soybean R&D system's development of resistant varieties and location-specific production and protection technologies, which have improved soybean yield in climatic uncertainties.

Dr. B.D. Biradar, Director, Research, UAS, Dharwad, Dr. R.K. Mathur, Director, ICAR-IIOR, Hyderabad, Dr. G, Somanagouda, Organizing Secretary, and other university officials were present during the programme.

Four soybean varieties namely NRC 197, JS 23-03, JS 23-09, and RSC 11-42 were identified for notification. The AGM consisted of different sessions on major subjects like plant breeding and genetic resources, agronomy, plant pathology, entomology, microbiology, breeder seed production, food technology, and transfer of technology were held and Principal Investigators of respective sessions presented the results/salient findings of AICRPS Kharif 2023 and technical program for the year 2024 was formulated. One production technology on ‘75% RDF + Rhizobium + MDSR 14 + 12c in south and central zone, 75% RDF + Bio-Zn + Bio-NPK in north eastern hill zone to enhance soybean yield by saving 25% of inorganic fertilizers’ was recommended during agronomy session.

A total of 70 participants including scientists from AICRPS centers across the country, representatives from allied departments, and industry attended the meeting.
