Augmenting Fish Farmers’ Livelihoods through Trout Hatchery Establishment

ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, in collaboration with Hemnagar Sundarban Dream, West Bengal established a small-scale trout hatchery & rearing unit and organised a sensitisation and capacity development programme to support fish farmers at Takdah, Darjeeling, West Bengal under the STC and SCSP schemes.

Dr. U.K. Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, emphasised the importance of semi-intensive fish farming for livelihood improvement in hill regions and highlighted the transformative potential of the newly inaugurated trout hatchery on the region's trout farming.

Dr. Anutosh Paria, Scientist and Nodal Officer, ICAR-NBFGR, and Shri. G. Mustafa, Secretary, Hemnagar Sundarban Dream, West Bengal, was present in the programme.

Species diversification, disease, and feed management were discussed during the technical session.

A total of 305 beneficiaries received various aquaculture inputs, including high-value food fish seeds, fish feed, ornamental aquaculture tanks, and pond lining material, in addition to the small-scale trout hatchery and rearing unit.
