Awareness, Capacity Building, and Fishery-Input Distribution Programme organised under SCSP

ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, in collaboration with North 24 Parganas KVK-1, West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, organized an Awareness-cum-Capacity Building and Fishery-Input Distribution Programme under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) component today, at North 24 Parganas KVK-1, West Bengal. The event was organised under the leadership of Dr Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, and aimed to enhance livelihood opportunities through sustainable aquaculture practices in the region.
Dr Sarkar emphasized the crucial role of ICAR-NBFGR in promoting fish culture and its impact on improving livelihoods.
The beneficiaries received high-quality fishery inputs, including Singhi (Heteropneustes fossilis) and Bata (Labeo bata) fingerlings, along with nutritious fish feed, ensuring a strong foundation for improved fish production.
This initiative underscores the commitment towards sustainable aquaculture development, aiming to enhance fish production and farmer income through the adoption of scientific and innovative fish farming techniques. The collaborative efforts of ICAR-NBFGR and partner institutions continue to play a pivotal role in empowering fish farmers and fostering socio-economic growth in the fisheries sector.
More than 100 fish farmers, including over 40 women participants, actively took part in the programme.
