ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal, and KVK Kukumseri, Lahaul & Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, jointly organised an awareness program on barley under the TSP program at Regional Station ICAR-IIWBR, Dalang Maidan, Lahaul, and Spiti today. The KVK presented an exhibition about the most recent innovations created for the farmers in this area.
Dr. Randhir Singh, former Assistant Director General (Extension) and Principal Investigator (Social Sciences), IIWBR, informed the farmers about initiatives taken by the institute under the TSP program, the significance of barley in this region, and provide them with quality seed for the ensuing season.
Dr. Pankaj Chopra, Head, KVK, Kukumseri, Lahaul & Spiti, educated the farmers about various agronomic interventions to grow barley in the district and various programs of KVK.
Dr. Satyavir Singh, Nodal Officer, of the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) program, briefed farmers about the objectives of the program.
Dr. RPS Verma, Ex Barley Team Leader, ICARDA, said about the latest varieties, production, protection technologies, and the significance of traditional products of barley in our lives.
The tribal farmers were provided with hybrid seeds of cauliflower to promote diversification.
A total of 60 women and 140 men participated in the programme.
