ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, organised a training programme on “Short course on Hill Agriculture” from 1st - 5th January 2024 at Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh.
Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Head, Division of Crop Improvement, VPKAS, Almora, emphasised on the journey of Padma Bhushan Shri. Prof. Boshi Sen who struggled to build Vivekananda Laboratory into ICAR-VPKAS.
Lectures on diverse areas of hill agriculture along with practical exposure were organised which included an overview of hill agriculture, integrated pest and disease management, soil testing and soil health cards, farm mechanization, mushroom cultivation, improved cultivation practices, role of hill crops in ensuring nutritional security, protected cultivation, apiary management, water management and role of microbes in agriculture.
An exposure visit was organised to Darima Village, Nainital for providing information on Institute technologies installed on the fields.
A total of 29 students of B.Sc. (Agriculture) from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi attended the training programme.
