ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad organised a 5-day training programme for women farmers from Mancherial District under SCSP on millet-based livelihood opportunities for enhanced income in rainfed regions from March 3-7, 2025.
The Chief Guest, Dr V.K Singh Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad, emphasised the importance of millet-based enterprise along with group-based approach like Farmer Producer Company for enhancing the income of women farmers. He emphasised the health benefits of millet in our daily life.
The training covered topics like millet-based livelihood enterprises, millet-based cropping systems, water management in millets etc.
As a part of the training programme, the trainees visited the Kisan Mela organised by ICAR-IIMR on March 3, 2025 and were apprised about different millet-based products. Exposure visits were conducted in processing units of PJTSAU and ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseed Research, Hyderabad for the farmers. Participants also visited the National Fisheries Development Board.
The valedictory session was held on March 7 wherein Dr M. Prabhakar, PI NICRA, ICAR-CRIDA, graced as the chief guest for the session. He addressed the trainees explaining the climate change aspect of millet crops.
The training programme was coordinated by Dr Jagriti Rohit (Course Director), Dr K. Sreedevi Shankar, Dr Ravikant V Adake, Dr Boini Narsimlu, Dr A. G. K. Reddy, Dr Visha Kumari, Dr H. B. Santosh, Dr Savitha Santosh, Dr Suvana Sukumaran and Dr C.N. Anshida Beevi, (Co-course Directors).
The training programme was attended by 20 women farmers.
