DDG (NRM) visits ICAR-MGIFRI, Motihari, Bihar and reviewed the progress of the Institute

Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR, New Delhi visited the ICAR-Mahatma Gandhi Integrated Farming Research Institute (ICAR-MGIFRI), Piprakothi, Motihari, Bihar on 21-22 October, 2021. The Deputy Director General was accompanied by Dr. PC Sharma, Director, CSSRI, Karnal, Dr. BP Bhatt, Ex-Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna and Director (A), ICAR-RCER, Patna.

Hon’ble DDG visited the research farm of the Institute and its different sections viz. land shaping experiment, goat rearing unit, pond-based farming, poultry unit; inaugurated the Cattle shed and Cattle feed store of the Institute; field trial site of natural farming and the rice-fish-duck experiment site. Along with dignitaries, he has visited the Auditorium, Farmers’ Hostel-cum-Guest House, Main Office-cum-Laboratory Building, Laboratories, etc. The DDG and dignitaries interacted with the Institute’s Scientists and contractual staffs.

During the interaction meeting, the emphasis was given to the unique ecological conditions of flood and flood-prone area for which the integrated farming is a key approach to increase farmers’ income. He urged upon in-depth scientific analysis of different components of integrated farming. The DDG (NRM) emphasized on resource inventorization, situation analysis of the flood-affected areas, recession of floods, existing cropping in the farmers’ fields and the development of integrated farming models in farmers field. The dignitaries also provided effective suggestions for strengthening the Institute’s research and training activities.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. K.G. Mandal, Director, ICAR-MGIFRI, Bihar apprised the DDG and dignitaries about the progress of the Institute’s infrastructure development, major action areas in research and capacity building, research activities being undertaken, future plans and programmes.
