Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR Visited SKRAU, Bikaner

Dr. U.S. Gautam, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR Visited Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner as a Chief Guest at the Extension Advisory Committee (EAC) Meeting of the State Agricultural University today. He emphasised the efforts made by the KVKs in demonstration technology dissemination and generation of revolving funds. Dr. Gautam stressed that the extension system and approach should change according to the changing needs and aspirations of farmers and the expectations of the Government and policymakers. He also visited KVK, Bikaner-II, Lunkaransar and interacted with women farmers and entrepreneurs and officials of the KVK. He also visited the model-protected cultivation of cucumber by the farmer at Lunkaransar and appreciated the efforts and achievements made by despite the very harsh climate and stress on natural resources. Dr. Gautam asked the progressive farmers to motivate other farmers for similar endeavours.

The Extension Advisory Committee Meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Dr. Arun Kumar, Vice Chancellor, ICAR-SKRAU.

Dr. J S Sandhu, Former Deputy Director General (Crop Sciences) and Dr. J P Mishra, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jodhpur also participated in the meeting as experts.

Dr. Mishra emphasised the use of ICT in the extension and promotion of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for export-focused seed spices and fruits in Rajasthan.

All the 9 KVKs of Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Jaisalmer, Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh under the jurisdiction of the SKRAU, Bikaner presented their progress before EAC.
