Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur today.
During his visit, he inaugurated the Agri-Business Incubation Unit (ABIU) at the institute’s main campus and interacted with incubates and mentors.

The Director General appreciated the research achievements of the institute and urged to increase the production of pulses, especially pigeon peas, and lentils which are the most imported pulses crop. He urged the scientists to develop pulse varieties resistant to abiotic and biotic stresses. Further, he emphasized the need for stronger research collaborations with national and international institutes working with a similar mandate. He also urged the scientists to focus on research targets and achieving them in a short time frame.
Dr. Pathak felicitated progressive farmers and pulse seed growers and released two publications.
The Director General visited various facilities including the Post-Harvest Processing Unit, Biotechnology Laboratory, Entomology and Pathology laboratories of the institute, and the seed production farm & processing unit located at the new research campus of the institute.
Dr. G.P. Dixit, Director, ICAR-IIPR briefed about the pulses research and developmental activities undertaken at the Institute and the action plan for attaining self-sufficiency in pulses in the country.
