To celebrate its 75th Year of Platinum Jubilee, the ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata has organized a Series of Lectures by the Eminent Personalities.
The First Lecture of the Platinum Jubilee Lecture Series was delivered by Dr. S. Ayyappan, Former Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) today.
In his lecture, Dr. Ayyappan outlined the Institute’s journey and its vision of reaching the new horizons in the Inland Fisheries Sector. The potential areas that the Institute has the scope of expanding in both in terms of reach and further progress was also emphasized in Dr. Ayyappan’s lecture. He accentuated on the Vision - 2030 and 2050 that aims to increase the production and the fish farmers’ income. The fusion of technologies, innovation and Start-Up in fisheries sector, COVID-19 and its impact on fisheries and aquaculture, PMMSY components, key targets and schemes related to inland fisheries were also stressed in his lecture. Dr. Ayyappan applauded the Institute for bagging the prestigious Sardar Patel Best ICAR Institution Award - 2020 and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award.

Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR accentuated on the importance of the sector in the present days.
Dr. A. Eknath, Former DG, NACA; Dr. M.V. Gupta, Former ADG, World Fish & World Food Laureate and Dr. Dilip Kumar, Former Vice-Chancellor & Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, Maharashtra also marked their presence during the event.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore briefed about the Institute’s journey.
The senior officials of ICAR Headquarters and Institutes also participated in the event.
The programme was also organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
