8th March 2025, Narendrapur
In a concerted effort to enhance farmers' knowledge of nutri-gardens in West Bengal, Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra (SSKVK), Narendrapur, in collaboration with the Reliance Foundation and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Kolkata, organized an awareness program on nutri-gardens and human nutrition through video conferencing. The initiative aimed to provide e-Agroadvisory on nutri-gardens while celebrating women's vital role in nutrition and well-being.
\Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted the transformative potential of Nutri-Gardens in addressing malnutrition, particularly wasting, stunting, and undernutrition at the grassroots level, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG2). He emphasized the Nutri-Sensitive Agricultural Resources and Innovations (NARI) project by ICAR, implemented through KVKs, to establish nutri-gardens, promote bio-fortified crops, food fortification, value addition, and income generation for women while conducting training and extension activities to transform villages into Nutri-SMART Villages. Recognizing the crucial role of women in fostering health, resilience, and self-sufficiency through Nutri-Gardens, Dr Dey’s message resonated deeply on International Women’s Day.
Dr Swagat Ghosh, In-charge Head, SSKVK, reinforced this vision, highlighting SSKVK’s role in promoting sustainable nutrition and dietary diversity.
An interactive Q&A session empowered women farmers by providing a platform to seek expert advice and discuss practical solutions, fostering meaningful engagement.
With the participation of 50 progressive women farmers from West Bengal, the e-Agroadvisory on Nutri-Gardens served as a guiding light of knowledge and support, strengthening their role in nutrition and well-being.
