ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, to strengthen academic and research collaboration in the fields of biotechnology, aquatic ecosystem conservation, molecular genetics, and fisheries resource management.
The MoU, formally signed and exchanged today in Lucknow, aims to promote interdisciplinary research and academic engagement between the two institutions. Under this partnership, ICAR-NBFGR scientists will serve as recognized supervisors for Ph.D. students enrolled at MJPRU.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to undertake six months of coursework at ICAR-NBFGR, gaining access to the institute’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure.
The collaboration also envisions faculty exchange, joint research initiatives, training programs, and shared use of laboratory facilities, thereby broadening the scope of academic and scientific cooperation. It is expected to enhance hands-on learning experiences and foster innovation in fish genetics, taxonomy, and bioinformatics.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kajal Chakraborty, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, highlighted the importance of integrating academic research with applied conservation efforts. He noted that the MoU represents a strategic step toward building a resilient and dynamic research ecosystem aligned with national priorities in sustainable aquaculture and biodiversity conservation.
This partnership marks a milestone in expanding institutional networks and creating valuable opportunities for students, researchers, and stakeholders working in the domain of aquatic genetic resources.
