ICAR-NRC on Meat Celebrated Foundation Day

ICAR-National Research Centre on Meat, Hyderabad celebrated its 8th Foundation day on 22nd February, 2015.

Dr. D. Rama Rao, Director, NAARM, Hyderabad was the chief guest and Dr. Manohar Rao, Chairman, VIVIMED laboratory, Hyderabad and Dr. Krishnama Chari, President, Andhra Pradesh Veterinary Council were Guests of Honour.

Dr. Rama Rao, emphasized in his address, the importance of livestock sector for ensuring nutritional security and specifically the role of NRC on Meat in promoting value addition and entrepreneurship development. He also released the News Letter of ICAR- NRC on Meat.

Dr. V.V. Kulkarni, Director, ICAR-NRC on Meat welcomed the dignitaries and presented an overview of work done, achievements, technology transfers, entrepreneurship development, industry collaborations and various other research, extension and capacity building activities at NRC on Meat.

Both the Guests of Honour lauded the role of ICAR-NRC on Meat in providing training and technical support, extension and awareness programmes among veterinarians, meat processors, butchers and consumers. They suggested the Centre to takeup the work to ensure clean meat production and efficient utilization of slaughterhouse byproducts.

On this occasion, two MoU’s were signed with entrepreneurs trained at ICAR-NRC on Meat for test marketing and utilization of meat processing facilities at ICAR-NRC on Meat. Mr. Gulzar Ahmed, MD, Alshifa Frozen Foods, New Delhi and Mr. Obedullah Qureshi, Tasty Fresh Chicken, Kurnool, A.P have signed the agreement.

The foundation day programme, in addition to a good number of meat processors, meat exporters, butchers was also attended by scientists, students, officers and employees of NRC on Meat.

Earlier, Dr. G. Venugopal, Principal scientist welcomed the guests and the programme was coordinated by Dr. Baswa Reddy, Senior Scientist.
