Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, visited KVK, Bathinda on 27th March, 2015, .
During interaction, she emphasised on mapping of the horticultural crops in the entire Malwa region of Punjab in order to assure proper basic facilities for producers of fruit and vegetables. She urged scientists to demonstrate the latest technologies in the field of agriculture for higher profitability. Food processing has tremendous scope in raising the income of farmers and we have to train them properly so that small and marginal farmers can compete in the market.
She said the KVKs, which have been serving the farming community of Punjab, will be further strengthened and suggested to develop this KVK should be developed as Model KVK.
The minister visited Demonstration Park, polyhouse and laboratories of KVK. Dr. Jagdish Grover, Associate Director explained the various activities of the KVK. She also interacted with ex-trainees of the KVK. Further, she suggested developing data base of trainees being trained by KVK so that post-training process can be strengthened. She also released a compendium on "Atlas of major crops of Punjab.
Dr. B S Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, PAU elaborated the salient achievements of KVK and also assured that the suggestions will be implemented in letter and spirit by involving all the stakeholders.
