ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora is organizing 10 days high end workshop on “Hands-on training workshop on plant pest/pathogen diagnostics associated with hill agriculture” under Accelerate Vigyan Scheme sponsored by DST- Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), New Delhi.


The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of lamp by Dr Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR VPKAS, Almora, Dr Lakshmi Kant briefed about achievements of ICAR-VPKAS, its historical importance, aspirations and 98 years journey. He congratulated all the 20 participants for their selection out of 112 applicants. He also asked to actively participate in the workshop in order to get benefited from this programme and wished for the success of the workshop and inspired the participants for academically rewarding stay and learning at campus.

The training workshop organizer Dr Ashish Kumar Singh, Scientist, Nematology delivered formal welcome address, summary and importance of the workshop.
Dr N. K. Hedau, described the importance of pest/pathogen diagnostics in hill agriculture. Dr J.K. Bisht described the significance of plant diseases, nematodes and insect pest under changing climate scenario related fields and how they are interconnected from a long time.
Dr K.K. Mishra emphasized the role of various diagnostic techniques in wheat rust and other crop pests in hill agriculture.
Dr. B.M. Pandey told that crop protection is playing very crucial role in present agriculture and everyone should know the symptoms and diagnostic to rectify the problems of farmers.
The workshop has been specifically designed for Post-Graduate and PhD students to impart contemporary pest/pathogen diagnostics technique associated with hill agriculture. The 10 days course has been developed with different lectures on insect pest, nematode and disease diagnostic technique followed by hands on practical by the experts. Twenty M.Sc. & Ph.D. research scholars from different states viz. Himachal Pradesh, Orrisa, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttara Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu, Rajasthan are participating in the workshop.
