ICAR-AICRP on Agroforestry celebrates World Bamboo Day

The Coordinating Centres of the ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Agroforestry celebrated the World Bamboo Day today.

The ICAR-AICRP on Agroforestry has developed the Bamboo based Agroforestry Systems for the different agro-ecological regions.

At Nagpur, around 50 farmers participated in the programme organized in association with The State Forest Department. During the occasion, the farmers were provided with 20 saplings of high yielding Bamboosa balcooa.

At Ponnampet, the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Virajpet Division inaugurated the programme. Around 75 farmers and other individuals participated in the programme.

Dr. Ramakrishna Hegde, OIC, ICAR-AICRP on Agroforestry delivered a Talk on “Bamboo cultivation”. The Centre distributed around 10,000 bamboo plants to the farmers.

The main objective of the occasion was to raise awareness about the benefits of bamboo and promote its use in everyday products.
