ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana Celebrates its Foundation Day

ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana, celebrated its Foundation Day with the theme, ‘Women Agri-Entrepreneurship in India.’ The event underscored the institute's strong dedication to advancing agricultural research and promoting women's empowerment within the sector.

Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Srinagar, underscored the criticality of secondary agriculture, good agricultural practices, and empowering women in rural communities. He further stressed the need for food/nutritional/economic security, equality and inclusiveness, and ecosystem sustainability.

Dr Naveen Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur, praised the innovative AUC portal (KVK-SAKSHAM) and its real-time monitoring capabilities and streamlining the KVKs functionality. He stressed the importance of robust policy frameworks and impactful extension initiatives.

Dr Anupama Singh, Joint Director (Education), ICAR-IARI, delivered the 2nd M.S. Swaminathan Memorial Lecture and emphasized the vision of ‘Vikshit Bharat’ and the pivotal role of women empowerment in achieving sustainability, zero poverty, and agricultural innovation.

Dr Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, briefed the institute's achievements and contributions within Zone-I. He accentuated ICAR-ATARI's mission to promote sustainable agricultural development and empower women in agribusiness.

Dr Nachikhet Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering & Technology, Ludhiana highlighted the strategies to minimize post-harvest losses and the need for financial literacy and food safety training.

Directors of Extension Education of SAUs, Programme Coordinators, and Women Scientists of 72 KVKs also graced the occasion. 

An exhibition was organised featuring over 60 women entrepreneurs from Zone-1, who showcased their innovations and value-added products. Recognitions were presented to young scientists, national awardees, women officials, and agri-entrepreneurs for their outstanding contributions to innovation and sustainability in agriculture.

Around 200 participants, including scientists and agri-entrepreneurs, participated in the programme.
