Workshop on Roadmap for Future Extension Research by KVKs was organised by ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jabalpur for reorienting the extension research in Krishi Vigyan Kendras on the basis of future perspective in agriculture.
Dr. K. Narayana Gowda, Former VC, UAS, Bengaluru was the Chief Guest of the program.
Dr. S.R.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur, Dr. D.K. Jaiswal, HoD, Extension Education, JNKVV Jabalpur, Dr. PDKV Akola, Dr. A.A. Raut, Scientist and Dr. Harish M.N., Scientist, ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur, Academic staff of Department of Extension Education, JNKVV, Jabalpur, Subject Matter Specialists of Extension Education from Krishi Vigyan Kendras of ICAR-ATARI Jabalpur were presented during the workshop.
Dr. Gowda emphasized the importance of Extension Experts empathizing with farmers' situations and utilizing India's untapped natural resources to generate more output and enhance income. He accentuated the need for sustainable development, promoting organic and natural farming practices, and adopting standardization procedures for natural farming. Dr. Gowda highlighted the potential for exporting farm and forest produce in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and suggested a group approach for value addition and market linkage. KVKs Subject Matter Specialists should provide support and guidance to the farming community.
Dr. D. P. Sharma, DES, JNKVV, Jabalpur, remarked extension is the core activity of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and extension experts also have to focus on analyzing the factors that hinder or promote the adoption of agricultural technologies among the farming community.
Capt. Dr. L.B. Kalantri, Ex-Director of Sericulture Govt. of Maharashtra and Ex. HoD, Extension Education, Dr. PDKV Akola, emphasised farmers as the primary focus of extension work in agriculture, emphasizing the need for natural and organic farming to combat the overuse of chemicals, soil degradation, and human health issues.
Dr. Milind Rathore, HoD, Extension Education, CoA, Nagpur, exhorted on market-led extension and more opportunities for rural youth by developing entrepreneurial skills and establishing enterprises to retain them in agriculture.
Earlier, Dr. S.R.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur, delivered a welcome address.
A brainstorming session was also organized to generate and capture the thematic and sub-thematic areas for future extension research on the basis of National, State, and Regional level priorities to be conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
More than 50 participants from KVKs, Department of Extension Education, JNKVV Jabalpur, and ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur participated in the workshop online and offline mode.
